Beyond Driving with Dignity

A Family-Centered, Respectful Approach

The Beyond Driving with Dignity program was created in 2008 by Matt Gurwell, a retired Ohio State Trooper. Matt’s passion has always been to reduce preventable traffic crashes involving older drivers affected by diminished cognitive and/or physical abilities. Beyond Driving With Dignity is designed to save lives while helping to ease the burden on the family who is faced with this sensitive, challenging issue.

Support for Families: Easing a Tough Transition

Founded in 2008, the program was built on a simple mission. To keep everyone safer on the road while honoring the dignity of older drivers whose abilities may be changing.

The program offers families a respectful, and step-by-step way to address driving concerns. Designed with easing the emotional weight of a very sensitive decision, and most importantly, saving lives.

How the Beyond Driving With Dignity Program Works

Beyond Driving With Dignity is committed to keeping aging and medically challenged drivers safe without compromising their dignity. Certified franchise partners meet one-on-one with older motorists, while guiding them through our proven assessment and education program. The program also equips the families, senior-care professionals, and community groups with practical resources.

To amplify this impact, our partners collaborate with physicians, geriatric specialists, law enforcement agencies, and highway-safety officials. We’ve created a network that protects lives while supporting informed, and compassionate driving decisions.
